1. Introduction
Intel® Technology Access (Intel® TA) is a set of REST APIs that enables applications to access platform technologies using web services. This document provides kit descriptions, system requirements, fixed issues, and known issues.
Reference documentation is listed in the Release Kit section below.

3. Features
This release of Intel Technology Access supports:
- 2 in 1 sensor detection for toggling between laptop and tablet modes.
- TAP driver: When a network connection is unavailable, the TAP driver is used as the network interface that connects applications to platform technologies.
4. Hardware and Software Compatibility
Type of Channel | Requirements |
---|---|
Filter driver channel |

5. Fixed Issues
The following issues have been fixed:
5.1. General Fixed Issues
- The filter driver only works behind Cisco* VPN, Pure* VPN. VPNs that support OpenVPN* protocol are not currently supported [#233]
- An active network connection is required for Intel TA with filter driver to function
- Support for updating Intel TA via Intel® Update Manager will not be available until release Intel TA 1.2.
- HTTP 403 failures observed when accessing 2 in 1 value via cloud path [#373]
- Document how to use pairing to detect Intel TA Installation status [#376] – Refer to the Intel TA Developers Guide for detailed instructions which can be downloaded from https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-technology-access.
- HTTP 500 failures observed when attempting to get 2 in 1 sensor value, display settings values or long polling capabilities. [#375]
5.2 ME Channel Fixed Issues
- If you do not want to use Intel TA filter driver, follow the instructions in section 6 (Appendix A) of the install guide (Intel_Technology_Access_Software_Install_Guide.pdf) to install ME channel only. Attempting to disable the Intel TA filter driver using the network connections (either Wi-Fi or LAN) properties will result in a blue screen. [#359]
6. Known Issues
6.1 General Known Issues
- Sporadic network connection loss observed during the installation process of Intel TA. [#CACE-410]
- Under specific conditions, Intel TA installer prompts users to restart the system in order to complete the Intel Update Manager installation [#CACE-415]
- When installing Intel TA, some Virus Detection third party software installed on the system will display a virus detection alert. In order to continue the installation, the user needs to select the option to allow the Intel TA installation to resume. If the user selects the option to remove Intel TA, this action will result in an installation error and Intel TA cannot be uninstalled from “Add/Remove Programs”. [#437]
- The TAP driver doesn’t become enabled in airplane mode. [#414]
6.2 ME Channel Known Issues
N/A
7. Known Limitations
- Installing the latest version of Intel TA over a version older than Intel TA 1.1.0.1008 results in installation errors. [#357]
- The Intel TA with ME channel will be non-functional when there is an active internet connection behind proxy (e.g., an Enterprise network). Intel TA with ME channel works fine with networks that are not behind proxy. [#262]
- Using Intel TA under VPN split tunneling will not work for Google Chrome* browser. [#232]
- CORS issues are encountered when trying to access Intel TA 2 in 1 capability using Firefox* if Firefox was installed after the Intel TA service was started. Workaround: Restart the Intel TA service or the system to allow Firefox certificate store to be updated with Intel TA certificate. [#315]
- A reboot is sometimes needed after Intel TA installation because one or more components which were installed as part of the Intel TA installation requires a restart in order for changes to take effect. [#417]
- 2 in 1 API value:
- Returns only two values: "tablet" or "laptop". If 2 in 1 is not supported by the device, the value returned is always "tablet".
- The first time the 2 in 1 API is called, the value is undetermined. Every subsequent time, the value reflects the correct position of the device or "tablet" if 2 in 1 is not supported.
