Conference Keynote

Dr. Genevieve Bell, Intel

Tuesday, November 19th. 8:30 – 10:00

This year’s show officially opens with a keynote by Intel cultural anthropologist and Intel fellow Genevieve Bell. Dr. Bell’s talk “The Secret Life of Data” discusses how we’ve been dealing with big data for millennia and that approaching big data problems with the right frame of reference is the key addressing many of the problems we face today.

Parallel Universe Computing Challenge

Daily: 8:00 p.m. on 11/18. 11 a.m. & 4 p.m. on 11/19-20. 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. on 11/21
Intel Booth #2701

Parallel is the path forward. To meet future technical computing demands, systems in the next decade will support millions of processor cores with thousands of threads. But increased compute power will only get us so far. Future performance gains will also come through parallelism, and modernizing key applications will help us make the next leap in discovery. The Parallel Universe Computing Challenge is an 8-team single elimination tournament designed to raise awareness of the importance of parallelization in improving the performance of technical computing applications. The competition is highly entertaining with team competing on stage for the grand prize – a charitable donation of $25,000 USD, the recipient will be selected by the winning team.

Intel Demos

Daily. 2-3 minutes per demo stop.
Intel Booth #2701

See how researchers, scientists, and engineering are using compute to compete. We’ll feature several high-fidelity visualizations that are helping the medical researchers, weather forecasters, and mechanical engineers advance their research to solve mankind’s grand challenges. We’ll also feature demonstrations of how engineers are using compute-based design and simulation to improve the products and services we use in everyday life.

Intel Theater Presentations

Daily. 15 minutes per presentation.
Intel Booth #2701

Come sit down and relax in Intel’s in-booth theater. We’ll be featuring 15-minute presentations from Intel fellow travelers four times an hour throughout the show. Fellow travelers scheduled to present include:

Aeon, AIC Inc, Allinea, Altair, AMAX, Atipa, Bull, Colfax, Colorado School of Mines, CoolIT, COSMOS, Cray, DataDirect Networks, EMC, Fortissimo, HP, IBM, MathWorks, National Renewable Energies Lab, NCMS, Nei, Netapp, Numerical Algorithms Group, Ohio Supercomputing Center, ParaView, Penguin Computing, RSC, San Diego Supercomputing Center, SGI, Texas Advanced Computing Center, Tyan, University of Vienna, Xyratex, AccelerEyes, Ingram, NASA-Goddard, Petrobras, STAC Research, and more.

Discover Your Parallel Universe Video Recordings

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Supercomputing, we want to hear from you. Come by the Intel booth to film your aspirational statement of what you’ll accomplish with the help of technical computing. We’re going to present you with the phrase “In a Parallel Universe...” and you’re going to fill–in the rest. And think big. For example, medical researchers from TACC are thinking “In a Parallel Universe, There is a Cure.” Then tell us the challenges you face to get there.

Intel Fellow Traveler Tours

Daily. 30-minutes per tour.
Intel Booth #2701, #2501

Take a 30-minute guided tour of the SC’13 show floor to see how Intel fellow travelers are bringing products and services to market utilizing Intel technology. Each tour features eight fellow traveler stops with a mix of end users, computing hardware vendors, storage hardware vendors, and software providers.

Intel Collaboration Hubs

Daily. Topics rotate every 2 hours. Appointments with specific experts also available.
Intel Booth #2701

Let’s get there together. As a technical computing community, we’ll need to work together on the challenges that face our community. Whether it’s reaching Exascale levels of performance, modernizing software codes, expanding the use of technical computing, or learning how to get the most out of Intel-based architecture by optimizing fabric and storage, collaboration in the key.

Join Intel and fellow travelers in a collaborative environment to learn how Intel is working with technical computing community to address our community challenges. This informal setting is designed for deeper conversations with the experts.
