Attacking the Biggest HPC Challenges Through Cost-Effective Supercomputing
The ability to evaluate individual health and deliver targeted treatments based on a deep, quantitative understanding of each individual—from DNA and cellular chemistry to tissue interactions and disease mechanisms—presents computational challenges that go far beyond today’s capabilities. Intel and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) are joining forces to take on these challenges. They are combining their expertise in medical technology and extreme computing that will focus initially on cancer. Intel will jumpstart the research process by donating a supercomputing cluster. Although the specific design will be decided by collaborative research and development with OHSU, one thing is certain. The supercomputer will be based on the Intel® Cluster Ready architecture. Read why.
See you at ISC’13
Come meet us in Booth # 541! See what’s new with Intel® Cluster Checker 2, Intel® Xeon Phi™ support and other developments at ISC! Read more.
In addition to supporting your booth and floor activities, we will also host our ISC’13 Partner Appreciation celebration on Tuesday, June 18, from 6:00-8:00pm at The Hacienda. Click here to RSVP.
Tips & Tricks
Using Warewulf with Clusters
Warewulf* is an important provisioning system for clusters. Its defaults work for simple clusters; however, when configuring a cluster in a real-world setting, the defaults don’t always give you what you want. For instance, in a setting where multiple clusters are served user credentials and home directories from a single server through LDAP, or when Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors are used within the cluster, extra setup is required. The Tips below give guidance in these situations.
- How to setup Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessor cards using Warewulf* 3.4
- Things to consider when Using Warewulf* with OpenLDAP*

E4 Computer Engineering Certifies Cluster with Intel® Xeon Phi™ Coprocessors
Congratulations to Intel® Cluster Ready partner, E4 Computer Engineering, on their new cluster certification with Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors! Using the latest Intel® Cluster Checker, E4 was the first European Partner to specifically check the functionality of MIC.
Engineer Francesca Tartaglione said, “This certification gave us the opportunity to certify a cluster with innovative hardware (the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor) in a very easy way. I really appreciated the new Intel Cluster Checker version because it is faster and it has improved usability. E4 Computer Engineering is dedicated to providing their customers with Intel Cluster Ready certified solutions. “
Also… newsworthy, at ISC’13, E4’s booth will have a dedicated space to Intel Cluster Ready certified Intel Xeon Phi solutions.
