The Intel® Developer Program for Internet of Things is a comprehensive program for hobbyists, students and entrepreneurial developers that delivers everything a software developer needs to quickly turn ideas into apps for the Internet of Things (IoT).  The program includes:

  1. Intel® Galileo Development Kit for IoT - The  first of several Intel-based IoT development kits, which includes:
    • Best-in-class development tools that grow with you from prototype to commercial applications within the same development framework, licensed for non-commercial use:  Yocto Application Developer Toolkit, Intel® System Studio, Wind River* VxWorks*, and Wind River Workbench used to develop applications that scale across all Intel® architecture, from Intel® Quark technology to Intel® Xeon® processor family that use the same binary or recompile for speed
    • The Arduino*-compatible Intel® Galileo development board
  2. IoT Analytics Platform as a Service - Cloud-based data processing platform that makes developing and deploying IoT applications in the cloud fast, easy, and secure.
    • Reduces complexity of data integration with IoT Analytics Agent on Galileo that ingests and transfers data securely from sensor hubs to the cloud.
    • Scales and secures growing volumes of IoT data using the Intel Data Platform based on Apache Hadoop running in the cloud.
    • Enables IoT applications to respond intelligently to events with data processing tools that simplify collecting, transforming, storing, visualizing sensor data and a rule engine that provides powerful ability to trigger actions based on event patterns.
  3. Mashery API Network with access to over 50 Mashery-powered RESTful APIs using a single ID.
  4. IoT Developer Zone - A new on-line software community to explore, build and share IoT solutions.  Join the community at software.intel.com/IoT.
  5. IoT Explorer Challenge.  Global hackathon series with exciting prizes  including trips, cash and  Go-to-market support:
    • Polar Expedition by Quark Expeditions
    • Himalayas Heli Safari tour
    • Seven Wonders of the World tour
  6. Academic Program - Intel is working with top universities and their professors to enable curriculum and inspire students to develop innovative apps on Intel's Internet of Things technologies. Harvard, Carnegie Mellon and three Brazilian universities - University of Campinas, Federal University of São Carlos, and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul are among the universities announcing their support for the program. This program is complementary to Intel's previously announced commitment to provide 50,000 Galileo boards to universities around the world
  • 20 City Roadshow - A worldwide series of local hackathons and meet-ups that will bring developers together to showcase and share ideas. Five thousand Intel® Galileo Development Kits for IoT will be provided to participating developers to support broad innovation and encourage entry in the IoT Explorer Challenge.

Hardware:

Intel® Galileo development board

Intel® Galileo development board is the first product in a new family of Arduino*-compatible development boards featuring Intel architecture. The platform is easy to use for new designers and those looking to take designs to the next level.

Add-ons

A variety of add-ons to enable developers to use Intel® Galileo development board to interact with the world around them.  The first version of this kit includes a USB webcam, LCD display, LEDs and connectivity options.

Software:

Yocto Linux

Full-featured Linux* OS optimized for Intel® Galileo.
Hob tool for customizing the operating system build.  The development kit comes with a ready to use image and also allows developers to create custom images for their environment.

Wind River* VxWorks*

VxWorks is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded RTOS that speeds time-to-market, lowers development risk, shortens schedules, and minimizes cost with leading capabilities in multi-core, safety, security, and scalability.

Yocto Application Developer Toolkit

Includes: Sysroot, toolchain, debugging and profiling tools, QEMU emulation support scripts. Eclipse plug-in,   LatencyTOP, PowerTOP, OProfile, Perf, SystemTap and Lttng-ust

Intel® System Studio

Intel® System Studio is a comprehensive and integrated tool suite that provides developers with advanced system tools and technologies to help accelerate the delivery of the next generation power efficient, high performance, and reliable embedded devices.

Wind River* Workbench

Wind River* Workbench is a complete suite of developer tools for software running on Wind River platforms. It provides a comprehensive toolkit for developers to quickly configure the operating system, analyze and tune the software and debug the entire system.

IoT Analytics Kit Platform as a Service

The IoT Analytics PaaS provides the essential cloud platform back-end for the Intel IoT dev kits. Using the IoT Analytics PaaS, developers can create smarter applications based on IoT data and deploy them more rapidly. Provides an IoT agent on Galileo to ingest and transfer data securely from sensor hubs to the cloud. Provides cloud-based data processing tools to collect, transform, store, and visualize data from sensors. Provides cloud-based analytics engine to trigger actions based on events detected in data stream. Uses the Intel Data Platform based on Apache Hadoop in the cloud. Supports multiple development environments including NodeJS, Python, Perl, Arduino.

Mashery API Network

Access more than 50 Mashery-powered RESTful APIs using a single ID. These APIs provide access to third-party cloud services such as health and fitness, navigation and mapping, weather, etc.

Samples

Samples include hello world, cloud connectivity through Mashery APIs and cloud connectivity through Amazon and other third-party services.
