Intel at ISC’13
Intel® Cluster Ready was flying high—literally—with more than 20 helium-filled balloons suspended over Partner booths. Intel Cluster Ready was also flying high figuratively, as the broad support for Intel Cluster Ready was evident at ISC’13 in the Intel booth as IBM, E4, Fujitsu, and seven other Intel Cluster Ready partners provided theater talks and participated in the Intel Cluster Ready self-guided tour. The Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessor was a key focus for Stephen Wheat’s presentation for the Vendor Showdown and Raj Hazra’s keynote speech, as well as a highlight in the Intel booth.
Partner Highlights
COMSOL Offers New Power and Simplicity for Simulations
New Intel® Cluster Ready partner COMSOL is delivering innovative capabilities into the simulation market. COMSOL Multiphysics* lets users combine multiple physical models—structural mechanics, acoustics, electromagnetic fields, fluid flow, heat transfer, and more—to create more realistic and accurate simulations based on all relevant physical processes.
transtec Showcases Fast, Remote Cluster Certification
In a demonstration at ISC’ 13, transtec, in partnership with Bayer, showed how a 28-node cluster could be certified remotely in just 11 minutes using the latest version of Intel® Cluster Checker software.
Change the Game: Best Practices in Deploying and Managing HPC Clusters with Intel® Xeon Phi™ Coprocessors
In this webinar, NCAR will discuss the work planned for Yellowstone, one of the largest x86-based systems in North America and their selection criteria and best practices in deploying the system.

Changes to Partner Communication
To better align the Intel® Cluster Ready program with Intel’s broader HPC marketing activities, we are moving to a centralized communication channel using the cluster@intel.com email account. This process will facilitate more effective tracking of partner communications as we grow the program. Please direct all future communication regarding the Intel Cluster Ready program to cluster@intel.com and technical support issues through premier.intel.com.
Our online presence remains unchanged. The Intel Cluster Ready site at www.intel.com/go/cluster remains your source for Intel Cluster Ready architecture specification, Intel® Cluster Checker, and certified reference designs.
Please direct any questions you may have to cluster@intel.com or your Intel field team.
Thank you for your continued partnership with Intel Cluster Ready.
Regards,
The Intel Cluster Ready team
Intel® Cluster Ready Architecture Specification 1.3
The Intel® Cluster Ready Architecture Specification has been updated to version 1.3. This replaces the previous architecture specification, version 1.2, published on March 24, 2011. The new architecture specification maintains the same goals and overall design as its predecessor, but updates many areas to reflect changes to technology and software requirements.
Intel® Cluster Checker 2.1
The new Intel® Cluster Checker 2.1 tool provides the means to automatically evaluate a cluster for functionality, performance, and compliance to the Intel® Cluster Ready architecture specification. Although compliance against the new architecture specification 1.3 is the default, Intel Cluster Checker 2.1 can optionally check against version 1.2. The most significant addition to Intel Cluster Checker 2.1 is the ability to check Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors in both native and offload modes.
Intel Reference Implementation
Integrators looking for a ready-to-run solution that incorporates these updated components, Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors, InfiniBand* fabric, can use the latest reference implementation. The installed cluster will support both offload and native MIC execution models, including InfiniBand communication with the Intel® Coprocessor Communication Link (CCL).
