This page walks you through the process of using the Apple Development Center* to create Apple iOS* Ad Hoc and App Store* (distribution) Provisioning Profiles for use with the Intel® XDK build system.

Before you create a distribution provisioning profile, you first need to generate your Apple App Store and Ad Hoc Certificate(s). You do this while creating your P12 file certificate needed by the Intel XDK build system, as described in Creating an Apple iOS* Distribution Certificate and P12 File with Intel® XDK - Walkthrough.

Start to Add a Provisioning Profile

1 - After you sign into your Apple Developer account using a web browser, select: Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles. Click Provisioning Profiles.
2 - Select Distribution.
3 - Click the + button.

Select Your Distribution Type - Ad Hoc or App Store

4 - If this is for a final distribution/production build, click App Store. Otherwise (testing), select Ad Hoc.
5 - Click Continue.

Select Your App ID

6 - If you have multiple apps, select the desired app from the drop-down menu.
7 - Click Continue.

Select Your Certificate

8 - If you have multiple certificates, select the desired certificate. You can use the same App Store and Ad Hoc certificate for both an Ad Hoc provisioning profile and an App Store provisioning profile. Remember which certificate you select. Add it to your Intel XDK account settings and select it for this project so you can build your app later.
9 - Click Continue.

Select the Desired Devices

10 - Select (check) the desired devices to be used to test this app.
11 - Click Continue.

Name, Generate, and Download Provisioning Profile

12 - Type a valid profile name. Click Generate.

Once it has been generated, Download your provisioning profile to your local file system. You should copy this file to your development system into your project sources directory tree. Also, copy this provisioning file to a central place on your development system where you keep certificates and related files.

Next Steps

You can create multiple Ad Hoc provisioning profiles depending on the testing devices to be used. Typically, create one or more for ad hoc testing purposes. Later, create a production provisioning profile for the final Apple App Store distribution. You can use the same App Store and Ad Hoc certificate for these two provisioning profiles.

After you create each production or ad hoc provisioning profile:

  • Copy the generated provisioning file to your project sources directory tree.
  • Select each type of provisioning file in the Projects tab under Build Settings for the iOS platform.

Once specified under Build Settings, when you perform an iOS build using the Intel XDK Build tab, the appropriate provisioning file will uploaded along with your sources to the Intel XDK cloud-based build system.

For information about managing certificates, see Managing Certificates for Your Intel XDK Account. To learn more about the Build tab, see Using the Build Tab and Projects Tab Build Settings.
