Customized Content and the Move from Cable to Mobile TV

Technology has had such an impact on entertainment and it continues to change so fast that it’s hard to keep up.  Not only has technology changed the nature of storytelling, it can now deliver content from around the world, where before you were stuck with whatever your local stations happened to broadcast.

You know that joke about cable having a gazillion channels but there is never anything on?  Perhaps it is because the benchmark of modern entertainment consumption is highly tailored choices.  No one bothers with channel surfing or waiting until something comes on (sports being the exception) when they can just find the thing they want to watch anytime.  And with smart devices, the immediacy of that cannot be underestimated.

Smart devices offer so much more variety and control over content, that paying for cable is going the way of the dodo.[1][2] Some of the reasons mobile trumps cable:

  • Cable is expensive; apps are a couple of bucks.
  • Cable anchors your content to your TV; entertainment apps give you the option of watching on your computer, smart phone or tablet.
  • Online content is highly searchable, customizable and broader in terms of variety.
  • Web content can be shared.  The social media element offers another level of interactivity that cable doesn’t.

To access a remarkable world of content, some powerful apps have come onto the market, like ZengaTV that lets users discover TV, movies, music videos and music from around the world.  This new source brings users greater control and the ability to explore the entertainment that piques their interest without the one-size-fits-all cable package.

ZengaTV offers full screen viewing, genre wise display, search functionality and fast channel switching so that seeking and absorbing the content that is right for them becomes second nature to device users.  It is also easy to save favorite movies or music for later, and share it instantly on Facebook* or via email.  This presents a huge advantage to users: not only can they find the content they love, they can exchange with other fans and friends.

Mobility is another factor in weighing cable against online content.  Users appreciate access that lets them take their content with them anywhere, viewing whenever they have a connection on their tablet or phone.

Consumers are empowered with more choices and variety than ever before.  It makes sense that they are gravitating toward models that offer more elasticity and control when it comes to entertainment.

The ZengaTV app is now enabled for Intel® Atom™ processor-based tablets for Android*, and can be downloaded instantly at Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zenga.zengatv&hl=enhttp://www.zengatv.com/
