Products: Intel® Parallel Studio XE
Versions: 2016 beta
Operating Systems: Linux*
Software Defect ID: DPD200568736
Problem: This problem will only occur with user installations, or with root or sudo installations on an operating system without rpm support, such as Debian* or Ubuntu*.
If you install to a directory that is a symbolic link to another directory, upon uninstalling Intel Parallel Studio XE 2016 beta, the symbolic link will be deleted if the user (or root for root/sudo installs) has permission to do so. It will be replaced with a directory of the same name with an "ism" subdirecory. This will be done before the beta bits are deleted, so the beta product files will remain behind. This is due to an issue with the uninstaller where the installer always identifies the symbolically-linked directory as empty regardless of whether it's truly empty. This identification then causes the installer to mistakenly believe the directory is safe to remove.
Resolution: We are investigating the issue and will address this in a future release. If you do run into this issue, replacing the hard directory with the original symbolic link, and then manually deleting the beta files should be the only action needed to resolve the issue. The uninstall cleans up the install database before it runs into this problem, so manually deleting files will be all that's left to do to complete uninstallation.
