The VTune Amplifier’s OS X* viewer is a handy tool for analyzing and viewing data that has been previously collected on a supported operating system with VTune Amplifier for Windows* or VTune Amplifier for Linux*.

With VTune Amplifier XE on an OS X* host, you can also perform automated remote collection from the GUI and command line on a Linux target system via SSH, as well as analyze pre-collected results from other supported platforms (Windows, Linux, Android).  See the help topic “Collecting Date Remotely from the VTune Amplifier GUI” for more information.

Downloading and evaluating the VTune Amplifier’s OS X* viewer is easy when you follow these steps.

  1. Register: you need to have a license, either an evaluation license or a purchased license.  If you don’t own the VTune Amplifier, register for an evaluation license at our try-or-buy page.  Download and install the Windows* or Linux* VTune Amplifier on a supported operating system so that you can collect data and view it on an OS X* system.   Once registered, you can log into the Intel® Products Registration Center to download the OS X viewer.
  2. Download: log into the registration center and locate the VTune Amplifier product in your list of products.  For example:

Click on the link to “Download Latest Update” for the “OS X* host only” version, then click on the “Download” link:
  3. Install: Once the .dmg file is on the OS X* system, follow these steps to install the software:
    1. You may need to open up permissions to "/Users/Shared/Library/Application Support" to allow the installation of the license file
    2. Start the ‘Finder’ application on OS X* (like File Explorer on Windows*) and locate the VTune Amplifier XE webimage
    3. Find and open the file ‘vtune_amplifier_xe_2015_update1.dmg’ (or similarly named file for other versions)
    4. Open/Click on the .dmg file to mount disk-image
    5. In the new opened window, double click on the ‘vtune_amplifier_xe_2015.mpkg’ to start the installation program
    6. Proceed through the installation specifying the serial number you received when registering for the Windows or Linux software.  Using your serial number during installation requires an internet connection.  If you don’t have an internet connection, copy the license file to the system and use “Alternative activation” to specify the license file location.  The license file should have been emailed to you when you registered, but you can resend the license file, if you can’t find it.
    7. After a successful installation, VTune Amplifier XE 2015 should be in the ‘Applications’ folder and Launchpad:
    8. You can now start VTune Amplifier XE 2015 by double-clicking on it in the Applications folder.  Remember, you can't collect data on the OS X* system.  You can only view previously collected data by importing it or collect data remotely on a supported Windows* or Linux* system.

† Follow these steps to add access to the shared folder:

  1. Open the folder “/Users/Shared/Library” and select the folder “Application Support”
  2. Choose the menu item “File -> Get Info”
  3. Open the “Sharing & Permissions” section and see if your user has Read & Write privileges
  4. If you need to add Read & Write privileges, be sure you are logged in with admin privileges, then:
    1. Click the lock icon and enter your password to unlock
    2. Click the + to add your user to the list
    3. Click the privilege to set “Read & Write” for your user
